working with HP 8510

Hi

I want to do test with Agilent 8510A network analyzer. I was replaced its sweep oscillator 8350B by the Rohde & Schwarz SMP 22 signal generator. I changed SMP 22 GPIB address to 19. but when I want to set center frequency or other similar parameters in HP 8510, they don't set ( be unchanged) and a syntax error (eroor code -102) appears on Rohde & Schwarz SMP 22 display. I would really appreciate any help. Thank you Yasamin Gharib

Hi,

the SMP is controlled by 8510? What command is sent to SMP? Error -102 means: Syntax error. The command is invalid. Example: The command contains block data the instrument does not accept.

Hi

I tried to change center frequency and span frequency in HP 8510, but the values didn't change ( I couldn't set desire values for them) and error appears on SMP 22 display.

I'm affraid this will not work - 8350B has different SCPI commandset than SMP. If you cannot tweak the 8510 to send different commands there's not much else you can do 😞

I agree that 8350B has different SCPI command set than SMP. Is it concluded that the two instruments ( SMP 22 and 8510) are incompatible?

I tried to check the Agilent doc, but they have only scanned version so it's disaster to find something.

Hi
If you can edit the program, you wil be glad to hear that a driver exists for the hp8510. A bit old, but that also applies to the instrument.
Yo can find it in the NI instrument driver pages.

This does not make the instruments compatible. There isno 1:1 relation between the drivers.

The driver won't help him much with the problem stated as the 8510 only uses a certain set of Agilent Signal Generators that are controled by the 8510 thru the System GPIB Bus, not the regular GPIB bus. So the sig gen he is using is not on the cpompatible list of devices usable for this instrument.
