Add Runtime Menu Reference as a VI server property

Status: New

There is a missing property that it will be very useful to have to access the menu reference.

Old way:

RuntimeMenuLoad_old.png

New way:

RuntimeMenuLoad_New.png

This way it's more clean and we can open a reference to the menu from another VI

can an AE respond as to why this doesn't exist? I'm guessing that there is a good reason. this would simplify a bunch of my code.

I think you're going to want LabVIEW R&D to respond, not an AE. Smiley Wink And I expect the honest, perennial answer would be "because the current way works, and there's way too much other work to do right now."

One use case I found myself wishing I had this feature for: I have some common VIs for which I would like to be able to open the front panel; these are called in multiple applications. It would be super cool if I could let those subvis obtain a reference to the top level VI (using Call Chain) and insert a menu item.

You forgot the other common answer, David, which is more likely here: No one ever asked for it before and we never thought to add it.

How about adding it to LV 2018, it would prevent us from having to distribute both the main VIref and the MainVI menu ref to the UI handler.
