Add a zoom function (yes, I said zoom. So sue me)

Status: Completed

Now available in LabVIEW 2023 Q3

Add a slider on the toolbar which would allow changing the zoom level on the diagram. This should also be controllable more easily (for example, by using shift + mouse wheel scroll).

Personally, I want this less for zooming out and more for zooming in. It's sometimes convenient to have a larger display of a specific area.

I know some people feel that a zoom is a terrible idea because it will encourage people to create huge diagrams. Personally, I doubt that (since you can't work on zoomed out code and zooming out and in repeatedly isn't that convenient), but I don't mind if people do that. It's their code (as long as I don't have to work on it later).

If people really insist, this can also be prevented by setting the maximum value of the slider to 1, so that people can't zoom out, but I doubt this would have any value.

The zoom should snap to 1 when you get near it and should center on the mouse cursor.

Zoom in LabView block diagram & front panel would be something I would use constantly. this needs to be mouse scroll wheel activated, keyboard shortcut assignable as well.

This would be a huge productivity booster as long as it is implemented smoothly.

Almost everyone I have shown LabVIEW for the first time has asked where is Zoom?? It is a daily need. thanks

Good Day,

I have just spend some 10 minutes searching the LabVIEW HELP for some advice on zooming in and out. And then, I found this thread. I am stunned that a graphic programming language toolset does not provide this basic functionality.

I am new to LabVIEW and I am amazed what one can accomplish with this great system within very short time.

However, I would much like to support the request to National Instruments: Please can you seriously consider adding a ZOOM IN function in the next LabVIEW releases. Pretty, please.

Thank you in anticipation!

Cheers

I am new to LabView, but I have programmed for years in the Opto22 envirrronment. I was going to come here to see if there was a way to zoom in or out in the block diagram. I use the feature in Opto22 function block/flow chart environment. Looking at LabView objects that have so many more possible connections and such a small view with monitor resolution at 1920x1080. It's dissappointing that this isn't a feature.

Yes, add zoom in feature, please.

As the LabVIEW programmer base ages, we're going to need a zoom-in feature! (Look at Microsoft Visio for a user friendly implementation of zoom in and out.)

Between my eyesight getting worse and screen resolution increasing, I'm going to have to get a smaller nose 🙂

This may have been mentioned before:

If you want to a zoom facility in LabVIEW use ZoomIt. With Windows 7 onwards it allows you to interact with the Windows environment even when zoomed in (read ZoomIt help for the correct key combo). The really good news is that it is free from Microsoft and the developer releases updates/bug fixes. Give it a try and if you don't like it nothing lost.

I use it when teaching courses to zoom in on parts of the screen the students need to be looking at, plus people at the back of the room can see what I am showing them.

Honestly. With LabVIEW 2XXX I expect the motion sensors (kinects on caffeine) and the holographicly projected "N schreens" (maybe iScreens or I3screens
