Allow customized toolbars

Status: New

One thing that allows users to adapt an application to fit their work style is the ability to create toolbar containing functions they use most frequently.  Labview currently doesn't expose that capability.  (Though there is some functionality for it--JKI's Unit Test Framework installs a toolbar.)

Ideally we'd have floating/dockable toolbars, the ability to add/remove arbitrary commands to any toolbar, etc.  In the short term I'd be satisfied with the ability to create buttons that execute a specific vi I've created and dropped in the project folder.

Aside from the ability to float/dock, what do you want that is not there with way toolbars are currently created?

@Dennis: Check out my first comment on scroll panel to origin. This is a perfect example of a little "roll your own" utility that would be handy to have as a user-customizable button on the toolbar. Also, check out an illustration of docked "Tools Palette" on the toolbar on LabVIEW IDE Overhaul.

Jack,

As I understand the idea, it does not pertain to the IDE but to applications. Trying to get some clarification. I never expose the LabVIEW toolbar in an app and not sure it should ever be seen but using the splitter and some custum Booleans has worked well for me.

Hmmm... good point, now that I read it again, I don't know if he's proposing a feature for applications or the IDE (originally, I only thought IDE). (Both cases would be handy... I would Kudo either...)

I have once created a toolkit that was docked to a VI, but never put it through to finish it (here's a link to a beta download).

I was referring to the IDE.  Sorry for not being more clear.
