Allow subVIs to inherit colors from the calling VI or Top Level VI

Status: Declined

Any idea that has received less than 10 kudos within 10 years after posting will be automatically declined.

It would be nice if we could set a VI property which would allow it to inherit it's color scheme from the calling or top level VI. This would be extremely useful when developing reusable libraries which include dialog boxes or pop up windows.

I agree, but first LabVIEW would have to support a standardized color scheme! Currently, it's just "well, I'll slop the painbrush on the background, then on this control, then on this decoration..."

To make this Idea more general, fonts should be inhereted as well.

And to make it even more general, a dynamic inheritance based on an Invoke Node should allow a VI to inherit from any other VI based using the other VI's refnum as an input (see my 8th comment on April 05 here for an example of this "dynamic inheritance". This is a requirement for the plug-in architects).

All very good comments Jack. As you pointed out there are lots of things that can/should be inherited. This would greatly enhance the ability to develop reusable libraries for user interfaces.

Kudos! This is a great Idea.  I am an avid proponent for getting the FP features (and look) up to date.  The VI Property (or inheritance) idea would allow reusable Pop-ups to be used on many projects without having to repaint them.  Although I try to keep my color scheme the same, I find darker schemes are much more Eye Friendly in a darker room (laser tests).   BTW, if you don't put graphics up on this board, your Kudos ratings will be low, no matter how good your idea is.
