Array Index display needs Home and End

Status: New

Array Home end.PNG

Simple, and intuitive similar to increment and decrement index.  How many times have you wanted to find the end of an array without knowing how many elements there are?  A Home and End feature would be nice to have indeed.

Note added: a possible solution would be to go to the end of the array (or dimension) when typing -1 in the index control... This has been suggested elsewhere in the context of programming on the diagram side, but it would make sense to extend it to the panel side.

In Run Mode, the advanced menu is the RTM for the index display, so the Show Last Element is easily accessible.

It could be useful to have the warp speed incrementing stop automatically at the array boundary.

Lively discussion!

I did not know about WARP speed Smiley Surprisedthe feature is flawed IMHO. Stopping at boundry isn't the way to fix it though Maybe Pause and resume at boundry?  at lest it works on dimentions independantly.

@Darrin, Show last element does expose max sizes and is a good solution for 1D arrays. after 1D the feature becomes less helpful if say I want to view the all columns of last row on pg 3 of volume V in shelf S.   (But, I freely admit I seldom use more than 5D and that many not too often)

So restated:

Navigating to the extreemes of an array dimention should have a 1 click solution that does not add graphics.

Perhaps Ctrl+Increment / Ctrl+Decrement

I would imagine the warp speed feature stopping at the boundary, and resume if you decide to start over.  I see little use in zooming through empty elements.  As for a non-graphical solution, the best I have seen so far is to have the Home and End keys give this functionality when the index display has key focus.  I would also be ok with the Show Last Element behavior only affecting the index which is right-clicked on.

Unfortunately, ideas which evolve through multiple pages of comments have trouble overcoming the first impression which is not the strong suit of this one.  If a consensus is reached on page four, you may consider a rebranding/repost.

Short of having some kind of click-click-hold function on the arrows, I agree with Darin's comments about the home-end or situation based show last elements solutions being good.
