Cancel LabVIEW during load

Status: New

Have you ever accidentally opened LabVIEW?  I have multiple versions of LabVIEW installed and pinned to my taskbar.  I often open the wrong version since the version number is not included in the icon (see this awesome idea).  It would be really nice to be able to cancel the load rather than having to wait until the program fully launches to close it.

Microsoft Office products give you the option of canceling the load from the splash screen:

How about seeing something similar in LabVIEW?

Would be very nice indeed! Especially since it seems to take an inordinate amount of time to load... at least on my development laptop.

This is a good idea....but why would you ever want to cancel awesomeness?!

We don't really need a button. It would be sufficient if it would listen to the <escape> key during loading.

And only if the cancel is at least as quick or quicker than letting it load and then closing it......Smiley Tongue

I really think this is mostly a thing of the past, isn't it? I just timed it on my laptop; LabVIEW 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 all load in 9 seconds flat from cold (about 3-5 additional modules installed on each version). In 5 seconds if they have been opened previously in the current session.

You can also just open another version of LabVIEW in parallel with the wrong one, if you change your mind, and then close the wrong version when that finishes loading.

A "cancel" function would save how much time? 10 seconds? Nothing wrong with that. Smiley Happy

LabVIEW loads quickly on my home computer, but it honestly can take up to 4-5 minutes on my work laptop.  I know the reason why - McAfee is scanning all of the files as they load.  Unfortunately IT will not add the LabVIEW directories (or anything else) to the exclusions.  I have administrator priveldges, but I'm locked out of making any changes to McAfee.  Smiley Sad

I'd be happy with the ESC button as well...

Lets hope the cancel action works better than when pressing cancel during an application build Smiley Tongue

I have often wished for a cancel option, and agree with JLMommy: it takes a long time to load LV on some machines.  On a fresh new PC not polluted by all the security software, it loads quickly, but sadly that is not a common thing in my world!
