Continuous Progress bar when loading dependencies

Status: New

i liked the idea too much to leave it like this!

When you launch a vi you always see the very unprofessional window that shows a lot of information that the end user is not interested in, the original idea comes from gt3000 who proposed the following.

Proposed New User Experience:

To get back to Classic User Experience: click 'more...', or if a dependency cannot be found:

It was rejected due to understandable reasons but with the wrong mindset, i would alter the idea like the following. instead of using a static progressbar that goes from 0-100 and where you indeed need to know the end point (issue why this idea was rejected). use a continuous progress bar like the picture below. this gives you the same output, a cleaner, more professional looking window.

Kudos if you like!

I too like the idea no doubt but after all the explanation and difficulty in implementing it and even if manage to to implement it is going to to be very misleading as suggested in the original post.

the whole explanations were based on calculating an endpoint for the progressbar. I'm only talkin of a better UI with a continuous bar that keeps on 'running' while dependencies are loaded. It shouldn't be that much of work in my opinion.

But will not serve much purpose other than an extra graphics. Smiley Happy

This idea won't serve any purpose IMO that isn't already served by the existing load dialog. You can already see which file is being processed, information that changes along the way.

BartVDK: You're proposing a new appearance, but aren't you going to have to have all the same buttons on the new dialog? What happens if files are missing? Or if the user wants to abort a long load?
