Don't flatten icon layers when dragging from another VI

Status: New

If you drag an icon from one vi and drop it on the other it is a convenient way to quickly copy icons.

The downside is that this action causes the icon to be flattened and all of the layer information lost. It would be nice if the layer information were preserved.

You can do what??

Dude... I had no idea. I just tried it. You're right, that works. I've never seen documentation of that trick, definitely no test plan for its functionality. Sure seems like the help page needs updating..

This is a more than reasonable request. We probably would've copied the layers already work if anyone had any idea this feature existed. 🙂

This issue has been bugging me quite a bit with my current project, which involves editing lots of VI icons. I'd love to see it implemented at some point.

I often copy icons by dragging the icon to another vi and then change the text a bit.

Every time I'm annoyed with the fact the layers are lost.

Today I was bugged by this again (LV2012) and wanted to post in de idea exchange.

I know the search doesn't always give the expected results but in the end I found this post.

(Initially I searched for "preserve layers" and "copy icon")
