Error In control should have key navigation skipped by default

Status: Completed

Available in LabVIEW 2015 and later

I do this in almost all screens that are meant to be user interfaces. I assign the tabbing order & then check the 'Skip this control when tabbing' for Error In control. So it would be nice if this option is checked by default for an Error In control.

Thanks,

Why is there an error control on the FP of a VI meant to be a user interface? When I try to imagine your use case, I can't come up with a UI that would need this. If I am creating a UI where users can type in an error (like the Explain Error dialog), then I wouldn't want this control to default to being skipped. If I am just displaying an error, I would make it an error indicator, not a control. Can you post a screenshot of the type of UI where you want an error control on the panel and you want it to be skipped?

You might get this if you have a VI which has error I/O and which also displays its FP. When I have something like this I move all the I/O connectors off screen, since there's no point in displaying them to the user, so the error in control is there, but the user does not see it.

Personally, this doesn't bother me, but I don't see the point of having the error cluster as part of tabbing order.

I certainly believe this is a good idea, it would help me an those occasions when I'm creating a pop up panel which has error in and out clusters that are outside the visible area. I certainly don't want my operator to be able to tab onto them and wonder why his highlight has vanished!

Recently I was working on a lot on user interface VIs, pop-up messages, etc..., so I quickly came to the same idea. It doesn't take much time to change the key navigation property of the error cluster control, but t will be much better if it is already 'on' by default.
