IMAQdx stops grabbing at ring buffer filled for only 50%

I have seen regulary that IMAQdx stops grabbing at ring buffer filled for only 50%

I am aquiring 300KB images at 500FPS. It just stops buffering although not all buffers have been filled yet.

I solved it by using a smaller ring buffer and copying the frames into a que for later processing.

It would have been great if the ring buffer would not require this solution.

IMAQdx is full of weird behaviours... that's just one of them... I think you should report this as a bug, have a support engineer to file it as a CAR and them call up your local sales rep to ask him to push this CAR to the top of the file for the next version.

Good luck!

Inspiring comment titou!

In fact it has been my endeavour to try to report this as a bug, that led to the question: how can I contact a support engineer that is going to report this as a bug and file it so that I can see it has been registered ?

That made my local sales representative point out this website to me. It is supposed to be a new approach to report bugs with a minimum of effort. Maybe I still didn't find the right channel ?

So far this database looks hopeful, though around IMAQdx topics it seems remarkably silent.

Also it seems only to be intended to store "IDEAS". Though I admit it sounds less positive, I would like to have a straightforward link where I could report "BUGS" and "PROBLEMS" without the need to first create an account, log in, fill in forms with personal data, or reading the section "IS YOUR TOPIC LISTED HERE ? (It usually is not) "

ufff... if your local sales rep told you to post on the idea exchange when you ask how to report a bug then he is very wrong.

go to ni.com/ask, log in, and create support request  - they refer to it as SRQ (maybe you need a valid SSP to do that, not sure), you can chose the way you want to be contacted (mail or phone) then an application engineer should contact you (give them 48h) to try to help you solve the issue, if they can't help you fix it or if it's clear that there is a bug you can demand for the SRQ to be escalated to the appropriate product support engineer (PSE) and if needed they will file the CAR.

note : when you have a "problem", it makes sense to look through the forums for similar issues and if you can't find a solution, I recommend to file a SRQ quickly, NI support engineers have access to a larger knowledge base that we do on the web.

in many occasions support engineers came back to me with the solution in less than 24h just because the solution was in their internal knowledge base.

Titou, I agree this approach should work. I have been there.

The procedure is quite time consuming, requiring an account, logging in , defining the problem.

Than, -after some time- the local support engineers start to work on it. It often works fine.

In some cases however it just takes a lot of time on both sides without getting to a proper solution.

Some problems however had better be dealt with by the central design engineers who created the problems in the first place.

Also solving things locally denies other users to learn from it.

For this particular problem with IMAQdx ringbuffer I did what you suggest here:

"demand for the SRQ to be escalated to the appropriate product support engineer (PSE)"

No result so far though. except for this post. To which so far your (very constructive) response has been the only one.

Funny that you remarked IMAQdx is full of weird behaviours. Concerning the ringbuffer I certainly agree. I namedd just one aspect to start on, just to keep this post simple.

the idea exchange is not the appropriate place if you're looking for help, go open a discussion about your problem in the machine vision section of the forum, the idea exchange (here) is really just a social feature suggestion part of the forum but don't come here with questions.

On the proper forum you can ask any question and there will be lots of helpfull people to help you, including some NI people (blue ribbons as under their avatar instead of the ugly orange ones).

And on the forum you can start a discussion for each of your problem/question.
