Increase Icon Resolution

Status: New

Since 1986, when LabVIEW first launched, there has been one constant.  Icons are 32x32 elements.

That made sense on 17inch CRT monitors.  There have been improvements in displays since then but, no corresponding improvement to the Icon resolution.

Isn't it time to change that?

Higher resolution = bigger icons, sub VIs taking up more space on block diagrams.  I would not want to see this.

LV NXG had larger icons. There was considerable pushback by users from the amount of screen real estate lost even on denser monitors and even with the zoom capabilities. It was never clear how much of that pushback was just "it was new so yuck" vs actual problems caused.

How about we allow vectors in the VI Icons?  Then you can have them whatever size you want.

Gosh and maybe an alpha channel.  But I guess that's too much to ask.

There is an alpha channel. It's just 0 or 1 (100% opaque or 100% transparent), but it does allow parts of the icon to be transparent.
