Installer Welcome Screen Timeout

Status: New

I am using LV 2012 DS2, I am building installers and want to use the Welcome message (in the installer) as a dialog to convey some information about the program to the user as I have various levels of installers.  The problem is that the screen pops up for 5 seconds and you can't read it, it goes away to quick.  There is room for a reasonable message, but not enough time to read more than 1 sentence before the screen goes away.

Sure, I can do work arounds, like loading a simple VI to display a message, but I don't think its as elegent as using what is already there.

Adding a settable timer and/or OK button for the welcome screen dialog allows me to keep my installer project information integarted hwre it should be in the installer portion of the build.

Of course you can click the [<<back] button on the next screen and then look at the welcome screen for as long as you like. 🙂

That sounds good, but I doubt if my customer would have the presence of mind to perfom that move.  As programmers. these ideas seem simple to us, to casual users that is not what I observe.  The issue is to comminucate one-time information to a user at the start of an install and provide a check box or at least a simple timer to give the user to read the message without requireing any non-intuitive interaction.

I still think its a valid request.

Yes, that's why I voted for it. We should be able to define if it should wait on the first screen for user input (probably should be the default!) or if it should continue to the second screen after a timeout. Since none of the other installer screens advance automatically, it seems odd that the first screen does. Maybe the timeout option is not even really needed. (I would probably not enable it!)

In my test system the welcome screen appeared the fraction of a second. In that case a user not even is able to realize that screen. I would prefer a general interaction by a 'next' button. It doesn't matter, wether pressing 'next' n or n+1 times.

I just noticed this issue myself for the first time.  (It is rare that I need to create an installer.)  It also stayed up for less than a second before moving on

PS.  Steve, your user icon doesn't show up because you have it linked to a linked in site.  Load your image into your image library on the forums, and choose your image from that location.  It wil lthen be accessible to everyone who is on the forums.
