There are distinct advantages to both the Probe Manager and Floating Probes. I still have fond sentiments toward the floating probes, but there are certainly times (especially when probing multiple open VI's) that the Manager wins. Could you suggest any ways the Manager could be improved?
Or at least why you want to kill it? Your comment isn't an idea - it's just a point of view, and without information to indicate why it's bad and why it should be removed, it's not likely to be taken seriously, even if it may deserve to be.
I am a professional LabVIEW programmer. That is my craft and LabVIEW is my toolbox. When NI rearranges my tools or changes their functionality it directly impacts my performance. Probes and custom probes have been a welcome addition to the toolbox. But I do not see any advantage to the probe manager. Just the opposite - the probe manager hides the probes, takes up extra screen real-estate, and places a barrier - the probe manger - between me and the probes.
I appreciate the configuration control we have over our environment and hope that if the probe manager doesn't go away entirely at least we'll have an opportunity to decide whether or not to use it.
With the probe manager, you can still open up the individual windows for each of your probes and minimize the probe manager window if that's what you prefer.
I feel the individual windows take up more screen space then the probe manager window once you get a few open, and they always seem to get in the way of looking at other parts of the code or front panel. If you slide your block diagram around, you can no longer have the probe windows near their wires. Which is why I proposed this idea. I would like to see it get a few more votes.
You may also want to kudo this idea because it sounds like it would be the solution to your complaints about the new probe manager.
I am getting better at using the probe manager (aka probe watch window), but to be honest if it were to go away, I am not sure that I would miss it much.
At least in the next LabVIEW service pack we will be able to have probe floating by default.
Any idea that has received less than 2 kudos within 2 years after posting will be automatically declined.
