LabVIEW Idea Exchange in other languages

Status: Declined

Any idea that has received less than 2 kudos within 2 years after posting will be automatically declined.

Being in line with the expansion of LabVIEW and its products worldwide where ever we have more users, it is necessary to enable a space dedicated to present ideas for other supported languages.

I am Italian, and I know from experience how difficult it is to present and support ideas in a language other than my own. Surely this produces a disadvantage for the non-native English speakers. However, I am of the opinion that having more than one "Idea Exchange" would be too dispersive, and would make the comparisons and the collection of votes in favor of the presented ideas really hard. I'd rather to force myself to do my best for improving my English in change of a centralized place where having the possibility of knowing what happens in the LV world.

The only courtesy I would ask of those who speak excellent English is a little effort to avoid the use of idiomatic phrases, quite often really difficult to translate into a different language.

Thanks in advance...

Google translate gets better every day. It's not perfect but I've seen it used everywhere, including Idea Exchange. It seems to work well enough.

I'm not sure that separate forums/exchanges categorized by language is the way forward.

Right now, we have...

  • "English LabVIEW", "English CVI", "English PXI", etc. etc. etc.
  • "French LabVIEW" and "French Non-LabVIEW"
  • "Chinese LabVIEW, CVI, DAQ" (yep, restricted to just those)
  • "Japanese All NI Products"
  • etc.

It's messy and unsustainable.

IMHO, to support multiple languages, it's better to separate subforums by topic alone, and allow posts to be filtered by language -- the "English LabVIEW" forum is already multilingual anyway. Then, all related posts will be grouped together, regardless of language. Those who speak multiple languages can then see all posts of the same topic under one forum, regardless of the post's language (yet, hiding posts that they can't understand).

This applies to all global forums, not just the NI one.
