Make "Getting Started" window wide enough to read long filenames

Status: Completed

The Getting Started Window is resizable in LabVIEW 2012 and later.

I use highly descriptive, i.e. LONG, filenames while going through developmental iterations.  Most of us store files on network servers in very deep path structures.

The Open section displaying existing file names is just too short, about 37 characters.  In a world where 128 character filenames are possible, and pathnames even longer, why can't this window be permanently or adjustably wide enough to display the entire filename?  Even some kind of rollover display with the full path/filename would be good.

This isn't just a problem with LabView but throughout the industry.

Well, there was an illustrative file attached when I started submitting but several bounces from the "idea tags" parser later, my post managed to lose that reference and I don't see any way to attach files to this comment.  I hope you can get the idea, anyway.

Problem with making it too wide is monitor size. It's got to fit on a 13" laptop screen. I suppose we could make it vary by screen size.

Some people code on a 13" screen? What madness is this‽ Smiley Very Happy

Yes. And though we often get requests for the iPhone as a deployment target, we actually do get a few requests for it as a *development* platform. Don't worry ... if we went there, I don't think we'd insist that Getting Started fit on that screen. 🙂
