Native support for SSH/sFTP in real-time OS

Status: Declined

Currently, the NI real time devices use FTP for programming and configuration. Services such as telent and FTP are not encrypted and can pose a potential security risk, and are not approved by some IT departments.

I suggest a feature for the real-time operating system to have an administrator selectable option to use SSH/sFTP for programming and configuration instead of FTP.

This idea, while not specific to real-time OSs, is similar:

Thank you Wart, I did see that post. Just to clarify, I am not talking about using SSH/sFTP in labview, I'm talking about the real-time OS (particularly for PXI) running FTP natively i.e. without any user programming. From what I understand from the NI support folks, the RTOS uses FTP for uploading vi's and remote management of the device file system.

There is a way that the FTP server can be disabled

but it would need to be re-enabled to download new software to the device.

If the device supported SSH/sFTP natively, I could leave it enabled and not receive complaints from the IT department.

I would also like to see native SSH and SFTP support for labview as well though.
