SSL TLS Support

Status: Completed

Available in LabVIEW 2020 and later. The TLS functions are available in the Functions > Data Communication > Protocols > TCP > Transport Layer Security (TLS) palette.

LabVIEW needs native SSL/TLS support for the TCP primitives. The HTTP functions support it (see \vi.lib\httpClient\ConfigSSL.vi). There are several great LabVIEW native MQTT libraries that could be commercially usable if there was native SSL/TLS support. Not having this functionality for the TCP primitives makes LabVIEW a poor choice for an IoT platform.

Hi Chris,

I was unable to connect via the link provided above.

Do you have an alternative location to try it out?

In appreciation,

@NI, wake up! All that messing around with 3rd party libraries or .Net stuff is not future proof for us.

You have to register for the beta. There are usually posts in the forum that invite you to register. The registration closes at some point. You might have missed it.

AFAIK, Usually, what is in the beta is planned to be released. There might be show stoppers that prevent this. That doesn't seem to happen too often though. The release date is more or less fixed. In my experience, if a feature works out in the beta, it will be in the next major release.

This was included in the third beta for LV 2020, which dropped a week or so ago. You can register for the beta at

https://ni.com/beta

There are comments on the beta forums about known issues with the implementation that have already been found. Please read those before reporting further. Those issues will be* cleaned up before release. Beta 3 is the last** public beta for LV 2020.

* have been, actually. A lot of those issues were fixed quickly right after the beta dropped.

** last planned. You never know with software, but I'm pretty sure given how late we are in the release cycle. LabVIEW has to finalize early so the driver stacks can do their vetting... given the number of NI hardware products, that can take a long time.
