Smaller Static References

Status: New

How about a right mouse click option to hide the datatype text in a static reference? Since we have the datatype color, it is a bit redundant anyway. Here's an idea:

You know, there are icons for all the class types... "Numeric" has a unique icon, as does "Control" and even "GObject". We could just display the icon, annotated with the folded corner for the "reference" aspect, and use that to draw the constant.

One thing that puzzles me in this discussion is the size of your references. On all my systems they are a few pixels smaller than yours (left vs. right in image). Do you have some weird font settings just to emphasize your point? 😉

Thank you for assuming I might be that crafty. I have used 14 pt Application Font since version 6.i. It has nothing to do with my point. They (references) are still too big and redundant IMO. They are also all different sizes, which is problematic also.

Sorry, I was just kidding with the craftyness. 😄

It was purely academic interest on what determines the size. Ah, so it's the "application font"? I was playing around with font settings and could not increase the size of references, so maybe I did not try the right thing ...

I don't really use references enough for this to make a difference for me. OTOH, a similar size argument could be made for local variables, which waste a lot of real estate on a bulky frame. They could be made to look more similar to the current references, with the label in the text part and a small triangle on the left or right, depending on read vs. write. Maybe that should be made into a different idea, though. Stay tuned... 😉

<sarcasm on> thanks tst

Just what I needed, someone pointing me at a journal detailing the development of PoP, spread over 37 pages.

<sarcasm off>

When I ought to be working!

I am a hopeless nostaligic of 90s era PC games. Reading about their development makes for some very, very good reading normally!

You should try the remake of Monkey Island... 🙂

Altenbach uses Local Variables, but not References ?? 😉

I know what you mean. If you don't have the time, I found this to be the coolest bit. Keep in mind that this is from the original shoot. That would be a proper milestone in the history of computer games.

I say you should blame M.E. Eng. He's the one with the distracting username. 😉
