Create a VI Snippet which shows front panel instead of the diagram.

So I can post on forums.  A front panel can display results after run the VI.

This exists.

Download the Code Capture Tool.

What's better about the CCT then the built in VI snippet tool, it doesn't have that bug that causes implicitly linked property nodes to get converted into explicitly referenced property nodes in block diagrams.

I'm surprised that you haven't come across this tool before now.

The advantage of VI Snippet is that it embedded the VI inside the image.

So it display the image on the forum, and when user download the image, he got the VI too.

And you can create a VI Snippet from selected code.

Yes.  And that is exactly what the code capture tool does as well!

I may be mistaken on the timeline, but I believe the guys who originally developed the Code Capture Tool were the ones who figured out how to do it, and it was only after that that NI created the VI snippet menu option.

My only desire would be that the Code Capture Tool actually be directly bundled in LabVIEW instead of NI's VI snippet rather than be a 3rd party tool to download and install.  However, there is a VI Package Manager package that makes the download and installation pretty easy.

Bill,

Some of us poor slobs Know about (or hear about) these wonderful tools but work behind security and marketing curtains that make it neigh on impossible to utillize these wonderful tools.

In my case the CORP states words to this effect  " if it does not ship on the IDE media it is an unfair competitive advantage and you must bid the time the tool would save you and build the tool as if you did not know it could be built".  Silly Government accounting rules!

Actually the NI version of the Snippet came first, then the hacking began.  Let me refresh your memory:

IMO, the CCT should be like Quick Drop, a stepping stone to improved native behavior.  I had a lot of people argue that my Copy/Paste method was not as good as the Create SubVI method.  Really?  Has anybody tried the CCT and longed for the good old days of mangled references, broken code, empty clusters, and eventless Event Structures?

My issue with this idea is that when I see a snippet with a front panel image I expect to drop it on the front panel.  Like this:

http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Front-Panel-Snippets/idi-p/1640260

(Fortunately I found a way to do this since the idea is not really taking off.  Feel free to enjoy the template browser and creating icons for all of your .ctl files while I am dragging away from Windows Explorer.)

I have a lot of cool hacks and tools that I like, front panel snippets, improved dropping, annotations, auto generation so I can browse by icon in Windows Explorer, and many more.  The tepid response to snippet ideas around here does not generate the motivation to actually package these up and distribute them.
