Windows based Folder dialog

Status: New
Would be nice to finally see the folder dialog that every user is used to from Windows instead of using the very confusing LabVIEW implementation.

Hi,

I've already mentioned the same thing as a comment on the following post, but I did not create a new item for this because it's all related.

http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/File-Dialog-Express-VI-should-have-more-options-in-Con...

I'll Kudo this anyway in the hope these ideas get joined and in the end, get implemented...

Yep, I saw your post and decided to give it a whole single Idea since it could have had stayed hidden only as a comment. I also used one of the pictures you posted in that thread - hope you don't mind.

Am I the only one who sees the "Current.png" whenever I browse, even outside of LabVIEW.  I don't know where "What we are used to.png" came from.

Is it an OS thing?  Regional, perhaps?

'What we are used to' is native windows get folder dialog. 'Current' is the LabVIEW implenetation of its own dialog that I guess is same on all platforms. I have never seen the 'Current' anywhere else but in LabVIEW. So users of my apps thus it makes it very confusing for everybody.

I was confused about this suggestion at first until I realised that the idea is about the 'Select Folder' dialog, not the 'Select File' dialog.

To select a folder in LabVIEW you get the standard file dialog with the added button 'Current Folder'. In other windows programs you do indeed get the other dialog that just shows the directory tree and lets you select a folder.

I would like to see the folder dialog as well. Kudos.

Personal opinion. I pretty much see the "current.png" more often then the "What we are used to". For me infact i have very rarely seen the "What we are used to" that you have shown. I would prefer the current way and no "+" to expand.

I dislike the  "What we are used to.png" one because it does not have a path entry field where I can copy/paste the location I want to go. Even if this is confusing to user (and I agree that this is probably the case) I would like to keep the existing one.

You can already and easily do this, but it must be on a Windows machine utilizing .NET calls.

Yes, and I did it. But you have to make sure that .Net is installed and if it is not then you have problems since regarding the size it is something you really don't want to distribute with your app.

Ja osobne nemam rad tento Windowsacky dialog. Ked sa dostanes do stromu niekam hlbsie tak zistis ze je maly a potrebujes scrolovat ;-(
