reentrant VI indicator

Status: New

I searched reentrant in this idea exchange and didn't see anything on it so here goes. I would like some sort of indicator showing that a VI is reentrant. Right now, as far as I know, you have to go into the properties and check. It would be nice if there could be either something on the icon, or a small label that would show if the VI was reentrant. Or maybe a slight "halo" around the VI, something to that effect. Any other ideas on how to do this are welcome.

John, you could probably do with this "view enhancement" idea of mine: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Project-View-Enhancement-Show-more-VI-Properties/idi-p...

FWIW I think this is a real shortfall of the IDE, especially with the huge proliferation of reentrant VIs in the last few years...

Having a way to turn on & off an indication of reentrancy, a bit like how we can view buffer allocations, would be nice.

Then we can easily get an overview of the situation on a block diagram and figure out if everything is as expected. Highlight the frame/draw a frame around it, put an R above the icon as suggested here e.g.

PS. Putting this information manually or automatically permanently in the icon (as suggested various places here) is less desirable for two reasons;

1) It should always reflect the *actual* setting, not what it was when someone updated the icon (making it possible to detect that someone has turned off or on reentrancy, or if I have done so myself for test purposes but then forgotten to change it e.g.) and

2) the icons would easily get cluttered.
