This is one of these "intended" LabVIEW features that you will have a hard time convincing NI to change... 🙂

BTW, it can be worse than what you are describing, as I discussed here.

Right click clean up wire will unlock the indicator from the wire.

Or just click and drag/keyboard the wire itself instead of moving the terminal.
