Control Software Engineer – LabVIEW System Control
Junior to Senior Level
We are seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, operation, and automation of a microfluidic high-content screening platform. This role focuses on LabVIEW-based system control, NI FPGA hardware integration, hands-on experiment execution, and Python-based data analysis.
The engineer will use LabVIEW to control and operate the platform, including NI FPGA hardware, sensors, actuators, pumps, valves, pressure controllers, cameras, and data acquisition devices. The role also includes running experiments, developing automated workflows, collecting and analyzing data, troubleshooting hardware/software issues, and working with cross-functional teams to improve platform reliability, usability, and throughput.
Python will be the primary tool for analyzing platform-generated data, including data processing, result generation, visualization, trend analysis, and troubleshooting support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain LabVIEW-based control software for a NI FPGA-based high-content screening platform.
- Operate the system and run experiments for platform development, assay testing, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation.
- Develop automation workflows for system initialization, fluidic control, data acquisition, logging, calibration, error handling, and diagnostics.
- Integrate and control hardware components such as NI FPGA hardware, sensors, actuators, valves, pumps, pressure controllers, cameras, and DAQ devices.
- Use Python to analyze platform-generated data, generate results, create plots, summarize findings, and support experiment interpretation.
- Monitor experiment runs, identify abnormal system behavior, and support root-cause investigation.
- Support system bring-up, debugging, verification testing, and hardware/software troubleshooting.
- Work with scientists and engineers to translate experimental needs into reliable control logic, automation workflows, and analysis outputs.
- For senior-level candidates, lead control software design, improve architecture, mentor junior engineers, and help define best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Experience with LabVIEW for hardware control, instrument control, automation, or data acquisition.
- Experience with Python for data analysis, data processing, visualization, scripting, or result generation.
- Hands-on experience operating instruments, running experiments, or working with laboratory, engineering, automation, or screening platforms.
- Understanding of hardware/software integration, experimental workflows, automation, data acquisition, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work with sensors, actuators, fluidic components, cameras, pressure control systems, DAQ devices, or automation platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical results clearly.
- For senior-level candidates, experience leading technical projects and designing control software architecture is expected.
