where nxt software can be found?

    Hello all mindstormers.
I have recently won the education version of NXT on NI technical symposium and was pretty much happy about it until i have descovered that the software CD is not included. I don't know if it was incedently removed from the box and then forgotten somewhere or software CD is not supposed to be in a package but anyway i don't have it. So i've looked on LEGO website and found that it refers to the NI site as to the guys that have developed soft and NI site refers to LEGO but none of them have a software for download or buy. This is very strange in my opinion that the main part of whole deal - software, is not availaible. Maybe i'm missing something, but after spending 90 minutes looking i'm a little bit confused about everything. Do any one have any thoughts on the subject? Thank you all in advane.

Alex

The LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Education Software can be purchased online from the LEGO Education Store for $42.00.

http://www.legoeducation.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=1270

It is currently listed as "Temporarily Out of Stock," but I'm sure it will be available again soon.

This is an old thread but probably a common need.  My son lost the CD to his NXT kit.  Is the only resolution to purchase the CD again?  Most companies I have dealt with will ship or allow download of replacement software to registered users.

As a side note, I find that the link to request the student version of LabView 7.1 is broken.  I thought that might be an alternative if I have to pay for something I mind as well get additional functionality for my money.  However, even if I can get the link to work I'm not sure my 10 year old son can use that software; it looks like it may be a bit more complex.

Thanks,
Carl

Are you sure? The request page itself works for me (but I did not try to request a copy). How is it broken for you?

Did you try to contact Lego support for a replacement CD?

I tried the site again a few hours after posting the message and it worked; all is fine.  Not sure what the problem might have been.

I did contact Lego support via phone and was told that Lego doesn't support the software and I'd have to call National Instruments.  That didn't make sense to me because I wasn't asking for support--but I didn't argue.  I need to take an assertiveness class.

Thanks,

Carl

LEGO support may have been confused about which software you were interested in.

I believe that LEGO does support the LEGO MINDSTORMS (Educational and Retail) software.  This software is not available for download anywhere on the web; it is only available by ordering a CD.

LEGO does not support the NXT Toolkit for LabVIEW.  This is the software most often referenced on NI's website.

This is Tsilatipac...I'm still looking to obtain a copy of the NXT software that came with my son's NXT set.  The only thing that I gather is that I have to pay for another copy of the CD?  My son lost the CD somewhere in the house but darned if anybody can find it!  I purchased it retail and registered it.  I can't believe that Lego won't just ship another copy or let me download it as a registered user.  That is pretty poor in my mind.  I have the software installed on my computer but, would really like to get it off of there and onto my kids computer.  I'm so darn frustrated...

I'm tempted to agree that LEGO's policy regarding 'lost software' is a bit of a pain, however I should point out that they are just about to release an up-dated version of NGT-G. it is expected to ship next week. Everyone who wants it will have to pay  $20 US for the pleasure.

This appears to be slightly cheaper, (albeit not free) solution to you problem

I was looking at that.  I am concerned however that it says "upgrade" and that without my original CD it may not work.  Anybody know if it is an "upgrade" or new software?

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that.

I saw the link that I posted, today on the NXTStep blog (http://www.thenxtstep.blogspot.com/ ). Those guys are pretty knowledgable. Why don't you leave a comment/question on the blog item there.

Otherwise you'll have to contact LEGO again, which I'm sure will take longer.
