7.1 after repair unregistered...

After repair of the 7.1.1 runtime engine, splash screen said unregistered. Edited the registry to put in serial number. Now the serial number is on the splash screen and it says unregistered too. What gives? Does this matter? Is this whole installation going to stop working?

I don't remember any registration in the 7.1.1 runtime engine. Are you sure you did not install e.g. an evaluation or regular version of LabVIEW?

I had a fully registered 7.1 installation. I repaired the 7.1.1 runtime engine because of another problem. No registration asked for. The installation apparently became unregistered because this is what it said on the startup screen. I looked up this problem and the knowledgebase said edit the registry key or reinstall. I edited the registry key and now I have (see attached).

Also the links under programs don't work although Labview starts when clicking a vi.

Maybe it's just so screwed up there's no choice but reinstall. This all started when I ill-advisedly ran an installer.

Gwd,

You mentioned that you repaired only the Run-Time engine but the screenshot you posted is the actual LabVIEW splash screen. I am thinking that somehow the installation of the RTE corrupted your LabVIEW installation. Although the knowledgebase you are referring to does in fact say you can edit the registry, I would strongly suggest you do a clean install of LabVIEW again. This guarantees that anything that might have gotten corrupted, gets cleaned up.

Let me know how it goes.

Well I got to this point following NI suggestions to fix their known problems.

If a particular suggested fix is particularly unlikely to work, consider either warning the users or removing it from the knowledge base. We go there looking for expertise, not more trouble.

Hi Gwd,

Did you try re-installing LabVIEW? Did that work? Please let me know so I can modify the document accordingly.
