Acquire N Scans ExtScanClk D-Trig

Hello fellow labview users, I was wondering if anyone knew how the vi.
"Acquire N Scans ExtScanClk D-Trig" works. I need to collect data with
the help of an external trigger (a square wave generated by an optical
encoder). I have BNC 2090 board along with AT-MIO-16E-2 daq board!
every time I use it, I get a time out error. My main question is:
where should I input the digital trigger? Kindly let me know if you

Connect your start trigger (once per turn) to PFI0/TRIG1 and your scan clock to PFI7/STARTSCAN. Those signal connections are available on the front of your BNC-2090.
