Acquire Sound Express VI in Windows 8

The Acquire Sound Express VI (LV 2011) does not seem to work in Windows 8: no sound is collected (works fine in Windows 7). Just hope NI can fix this before its next release.

Thanks.

Hi there.

So as you might know, LabVIEW 2011 and earlier do not support Windows 8, and the official version of Windows 8 seems to be coming out later this year. Thanks for the heads up with this. 🙂

Hi Ravi,

Can you confirm this express VI works in LabVIEW 2013 on Windows 8?

Thanks!

That express VI is part of the base LabVIEW package. LabVIEW 2012 and later supports Windows 8, so you can rest assured that the OS will not cause problems with using that express VI. Here is a document that discusses some frequently asked questions about LabVIEW and Windows 8. http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14279/en/

Good luck on your project.

Hi Vladiator,

Tested on a Win8 Virtual Machine/LV 2013 with a USB microphone, the Acquire Sound Express VI works as expected when I tested it.

Have you tested it on a Mac VM or Windows VM?

Hi Vladiator,

I tested the Acquire Sound Express VI in a Windows 8 VM running on a Windows 7 physical machine.

Thanka Tom. I am wondering if somebody tried to run thi VI on a Windows 7 or 8 Virtual Machine (VMWare) installed on MacOS.

Hi Vladiator,

I dont have a VMWare fusion license so I can't test that configuration personally; however I did check and the express VI also works in LV 2013 running on a physical mac mini (OSX 10.8)

One thing to note- it appears that the express VI and the Sound Input VIs it uses have a DirectX dependency that is likely different on Win8.  As Jeremy indicated, that dependency is something that would have been modified/adjusted in the first version of LabVIEW to offer support for Windows 8.

Tom L.
