Is there any guidance available regarding the configuration of Anti-virus software on systems running Labview with DAQ based data acquisition?

Hi there!
The software installation described in the LabVIEW 2010 release notes (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371778f.pdf) suggests disabling any virus detector, carrying out the installation and then re-enabling the virus detector.
In the case of opening the correct firewall ports, guidance can be found here http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/CEF5A3568A5DA71D8625732800520EA1 if needed.
I hope this helps!

Thanks Liam, What I was looking for though was advice on the configuration of the AV software. Do we need to exclude any file types, or specific folders from on-access scans, or will Labview perform adequately with full AV protection enabled?

No problem!
Just a couple of questions though:
Which version of LabVIEW are you running?
What OS and AV are you using?
Have you had any problems so far with the antivirus at all?
This will hopefully let me look into the issue further.
Many thanks!

We're running Labview 6.0 on Windows 2000.
Our preferred AV software is McAfee, however the system supplier has said they can't install AV software as it interferes with the running of Labview. I'm not convinced, having set up many other solutions with AV software and, if necessary, appropriate exclusions, but would welcome any advice from yourself.

Can they be specific about this? I personally have never heard this, and I've run LabVIEW with AV installed. At work we use Symantec AntiVirus. Never had a problem, and we did not have to set up any form of exclusion.

All they'll say is that, to ensure the fast data capture rates we've specified, they wouldn't advise installing AV software.

That's different. That's talking about the operation of the program that was written. It's not talking about the AV program interfering with LabVIEW since the statement can apply to any programming language. It's also misleading. Anything that runs on a Windows operating system cannot be guaranteed of a fast anything.

Hi again!
What sort of data capture are you doing? If the data capture is hardware based, e.g. through an NI board of some sorts, then the sample clock shouldn't be caused any real problem by the OS or AV as the sample clock could be on the board.
Otherwise, as has been said already, running the AV and high rate data capture simultaneously on a Windows OS is likely to cause some sort of drain on resources and hence effect data capture.
Is it imperitive to install an Antivirus?

I remember the old 6 Labview with NI-DAQ 6.9.3 could hog CPU time if not designed properly. Why not install the virus scanner. But turn it off then running your application.
