Any idea what would suddenly cause seemingly random "Not enough memory to complete this operation." errors.

Given that there are so many possibilities here, are you in a position to have someone in to help you get this sorted out and get up to speed on the code?

First things first, make a ghost backup of the hard drive in this computer before you start messing around with things. Sounds like you don't know that you have all the software/application files to install in the first place.

If a program has been working fine, nothing has changed, and problems start occurring, I usually suspect hardware issues (provided, of course, I can verify that nothing has changed - often something has).  Disk problems have already been mentioned, and they are the most prevalent.  Motherboard and memory faults can cause this type of issue (I am 2 for 2 with nForce2 chipset failures at home).  If someone upgraded your BIOS, problems could ensue.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone for all the information.

I expect to be on-site some time next week, and I'm planning to take the following steps:

1.  Create and image of the existing drive.

2.  Monitor the task manager to see if I can detect any memory issues.

3.  Check the System hardware for any issues.

4.  Check the System logs to see if there is any additional information regarding the error.

5.  Find out exactly what is running in the NI system when the error is occuring.

6.  Delete the Labview.ini file to see if this has any effect.

7.  Repair the NI installation.

8.  Evaluate where I am and what information I have to determine if I should dig deeper into the NI code, or get help...

I'll be sure to post my findings, actions, and results when I'm through.  Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the help.

If the app is running as an exe then you want to deleted "appName.ini". Plese note that if the app depends on any of the settings in the ini (things like VI.Server Access lists etc) delteing the file could result in a non-functioning app. So make sure you backup the ini file before you delete it, just incase you need to put it back.

Mike, What would it cost to get someone who knows what they are doing to come on site? We have a couple people that we have used in the past, but I'm not sure they are the best either. Let me know. Thanks. Jim

Hi Mugs,

I work with Mike (check his signature and mine).

If you e-mail me at

I'll get you linked up with someone that can make the arrangements. We can often help out without traveling.
