Application Builder 6.1 - Can you release applications for version 6.0

We have written a Labview driver.
We are considering getting application builder to make the installation process easier. If we buy application builder 6.1 can we build releases for labview version 6.0 as well as labview 6.1?

Hi,

as far as I know you only can save to previous version
(LV6.0 in your case) but not build an application for
use with RTE 6.0.
You will get a reminder during app-build that on your
target machine has to be RTE6.1 - but where is the
problem - install the RTE6.1 - it is for free - or do
you already run 6.0-versions on target machine - then
you maybe should upgrade the .exe to 6.1-version

We are trying to distribute a driver not an application. If the user has only purchased labview 6.0 then we will need an installation that installs our version 6.0 driver into their Labview 6.0.

Is there any way to do this? Can we buy an earlier release of Application builder.

If we buy Labview 6.1 application builder and build an installation set for the driver how will we be affected when Labview 7.0 is released?

Buying the application builder just to get an installer is probably not a wise way to spend your money. The U$ 995 is well spent if you need to create an exe from a LabVIEW VI but not for anything else. Check Microsoft's web site for information on Windows Installer. That's what NI includes as part of the app builder. There's a number of freeware and shareware installation programs out there as well.
