Article: LabVIEW and the Multicore Crisis

Hi All,

I've written a new article, titled: LabVIEW and the Multicore Crisis. (Don't worry, there's no crisis for LabVIEW developers.)

I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Great article. Next time I get into an argument with a snooty C++ programmer about LabVIew not being a real programming language, I'm going to make him read this.

Good job Jim.  It's definitely a convincing argument.  Then again, I've been hooked on LabVIEW for quite some time.  At least for the time being, I'd rather code in LabVIEW any day than try to "fork" threads around in other languages.

By the way, I noticed a small typo:  "most software programs that exists today" should probably be "most software programs that exist today".

Other than that, it looks great!

Everyone: Thanks for the nice feedback and sharing this article with your colleagues.

Mr Jim: Thanks for reporting the typo.  I've fixed it.

Hi All,

I wanted to mention that I cross-posted this article announcement to LAVA and there is a lively discussion happening there, as well.

Cheers,

Great article Jim.

Let's not forget that there is also development in CPUs that incorporate tons of processors. Let's have a look at the Ambric AM2045.

Reading the description reminds me in many ways on a LabVIEW diagram on a chip. 😄 Asyncronous, dataflow driven software objects.

While they even provide some kind of graphical development tool, they also make the following very interesting quote:

"Ambric is aware that programmers have largely rejected many previous attempts to promote graphical programming tools, so this interface is strictly optional." 😮

Maybe they should talk to LabVIEW programmers. 😉 I would really think that something like LabVIEW could do very well on such an architecture. 🙂

I am glad to meet here the author of "Labview for everyone".

One question is how to download the book's CD.

Actually, my CD was lost and had a trouble to explain something to other.

Would you please upload your CD contents on any homepage?

(I requested the CD to the publisher but has still waited for the response.)
