Batch command for license management

Solved!
Go to solution

Is there a possibilty to have a batch command to get license usage information ? We need it for an automatic accounting and license control. With the normal FlexLM it is possible to get them with "lmutil lmstat -f", but lmutil is not working in the NI environment :-(. The generation of a text file like the export of "computer & user" in the NI license Manager would be enough.

Hi Axel,

do you have the NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) installed?

What do you exactly mean when you say that it is "not working"? Does it fail, does it not connect, does it give an error?

LMUTIL does work with NI VLM.  I can run the exact command on my PC, using VLM 2.1.1 and it outputs the correct information. If you want to run the lmutil lmstat -f command you need to either run it from the server, or append the server port number and name to the command like, lmutil lmstat -f 2700@servername.  This would then run the command from a local machine to query from the specified server.

Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes we have installed the NI Volume License Manager and all our NI licenses are managed by them.

If I am using the lmutil lmstat command I will get the following message ( I was running it on the server):

C:\>"C:\Program Files\FlexLM\lmutil.exe" lmstat -f 27005@server052
lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2005 Macrovision Europe Ltd. and/or Macrovision Corp

Error getting feature, No such feature exists. (-5,357)

The port number is from the license file  (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Volume License Manager\nivlm.lic)

The nilm.exe process is running. The lmutil version is 10.8. The NI VLM version 2.1.1

Any other ideas where to look ?

Best regards

Axel

Hi Axel,

right now I don't have any idea what might cause the problem you're experiencing.

I'm using lmutil.exe v11.7 (downloaded here: http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm) and VLM v2.1.1

Bernd
