Last October I gave a presentation to some colleagues how to get started in
LabVIEW programming. Here is some information from that presentation on
books that I have:

LabVIEW for Everyone
- Prentice Hall
- ISBN 0-13-268194-3
- Very good for starting out with LabVIEW
- Includes a CD-ROM
- Version 4.0 of LabVIEW(as of 10-99 version 5.1 is current)

Learning with LabVIEW
- Addison-Wesley
- ISBN 0-201-36166-3
- Excellent beginner's book
- VIs are located at the Addison-Wesley Website
- Version 5.0

Sensors, Transducers, and LabVIEW
- Prentice Hall
- ISBN 0-13-081155-6
- Methods for interfacing to real-world sensors
- Easy to medium level
- Includes a CD-ROM
- Version 5.0

LabVIEW Applications and Solutions
- Prentice Hall
- ISBN 0-13-096423-9
- Theory-based
- Discu
ssions on mathematical topics & LabVIEW
- Advanced level
- Includes a CD-ROM
- Version 5.0

LabVIEW Power Programming
- McGraw-Hill
- ISBN 0-07-913666-4
- Theory-based
- Discussions on algorithms & software design
- Advanced level
- Includes a CD-ROM
- Version 5.0

The first two are both good books for a beginner. Note that "LabVIEW for
Everyone" included a CD based on version 4. You may want to check and see
if they have updated to version 5 before you buy it. Even being based on
version 4, l found it to be a very good book. The "Learning with LabVIEW"
book does not include a CD, but it's example programs can be found on their
ftp site at ftp://ftp.awl.com/cseng/authors/bishop/labview/

Regards,

Mike

If you are an engineer and have done programming before than these two
books:
LabVIEW graphical programming
LabVIEW power programming
in that order are most useful. I have glanced through the other books and
they mostly just go over the obvious stuff, some even reuse online examples
already available when you install LV.
IMHO the best approach is to go through as many examples as possible, since
LV comes with many, and NI website has about hundred more then that is all
you need.
