Browser plug-in with mac run-time engine problem

I have repeatdly tried to get web browser (Both Explorer 5.2.3 and Safari) VI viewing on my Mac (OS 10.4.2). I have reinstalled the run time engine (Labview 7.1.1 as downloaded from NI) numerous times with no luck. I get the usual "Browser plug-in required" message.

Doing a seach on my machine in the Internet plug-in folder reveals no new plug-ins after installation of the RTE.

I can run this VI work fine on a remote PC running Explorer, so I think my VI server is running fine. I quit the PC before trying it on the MAC to avoid any license limitations.

Any suggestions? Is the browser plug in available as a seperate down load? I could not locate it on the NI site.

Thanks

Hi G,

It sounds like you are using the web publishing tool. Is this correct? Also, could you please post the entire error message just in case someone has seen this exact error before. Thanks!

Chris,

I am using the web publishig tool, running the prof. development package on the server machine (Windows 2000 Prof.).

BTW, At another site where I was able to get a Mac web browser to load a VI, but I noticed that it used an additional application called the "Browser Helper". I can find no reference to this tool on the NI site. This machine was running Mac OS 10.3.

I do indeed have the browser helper loaded on the mahcine in question, but it does not seem to link with my browser, when I attempt to laod the VI server page. The header text at the top of the served page is normal. Where the VI should appear is an empty box, and a dialog window opens saying a plug in is required to utilize the data being loaded.

Hi G,

The Browser Helper is expected. It sounds like one of your Macs is working exactly as it should. On the other one, when you get the dialog window saying a plugin is required to utilize the data being loaded, does it mention the specific name of the plugin that it is looking for?

Chris,

Here is the message I get with Safari:
--------
The page “VI_Simple” has content of MIME type “application/x-labviewrpvi71”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:

http://digital.ni.com/express.nsf/express?openagent&code=ex3e33&

Do you want to open the page?
--------

Internet Explorer simply says "You do not have the plug-ing needed to view the application/binary type information on this page."

Thanks,

Hi G,

Lets try this. Install the LV71NPlugin file, in the attached image, in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins directory. I had to save the image with a different extension to be able to upload it to the forum so...

1) Download the file
2) Change the file extension from "abc" to "dmg"
3) Copy LV71NPlugin to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins

Please let me know if this works for you.

Thanks
Chris J

Chris,

That did the trick! Thanks so much. For some reason the plugin seems to be missing from NI's run-time engine package when it is laoded off the web.
