CANopen nodes

Hi

Please let me know how many nodes i can connect to the CANnetwork. I am using CANopen protocol with Labview 8.2.1. And I am using more number of nodes says 70 then how the CANopen will handles the bus data.

If anybody is having some document or link then please share it.

Thanks
J

Hi J!

According to the CANOpen standard the maximum number of nodes is 127. However there is a limitation as of how that works depending on the number of messages in the network. The maximum number of messages simultaneously that the buffer can handle is 300, so if for example, you have each node transmitting 10 messages you can handle up to 10 nodes at the same time.

I hope this works, have a great day!

Hi

So it means the number of nodes is limited by the CAN Card buffer. Is there any other method by which we can handle more number of nodes in the network....like by using software buffer ?

Hi,

Unfortunately the buffer cannot be extended using software, so the number of nodes that you can have is fixed by the hardware.

Hi J,

That sounds right but I'm not sure where Oswald got his information from. Oswald, would you mind sharing where you got that info from?
