CLAD/CLD/CLA questions and renewal

Well, I was finally convinced and a bit forced to try and certify myself. Have always been a but stubborn about it, but I guess this is the way it goes - beeing a consultant. Ive read through all the types - CLAD, CLD and CLA.

But if Im going to certify I would do and try CLA (just becaurse I'm a stubbern bastard), Im actually more personal interested in the topics and requirements of the CLA than the rest, and actually feel more comfort with them. Now I read that that to take CLA you must have a CLD, and to take CLD you must have CLAD.

1. - Why is that? As a guy who lives on time-contracts this is going to be pretty expensive? how much does it cost? and how long time will this evaluation take?

2. - The clad, can I take it online? at "Pearson VUE" it states I must select a company here in Oslo where Im going to take it.

3. - Also one more question, if you finally have the CLA, do you then also need to re-eval your CLD and CLA after two years (both), or only the CLA? and how much does that cost, and do you need to use a whole day to re-eval, or is a renewal more like a CLAD?

4. - Also regarding the CLD, seeing the examples and stuff like that, Im afraid that I'm not going to be finished with it mainly becaurse all the examples show a program with only one single while-loop. I am atleast going to have several modules (totally overkill for the mini-application, also to have like all own errorhandle module and stuff), even if most of them wont hold so much code, its the right way to create a program you can actually add new functionality to (that also totally differs from the existing program) without re-editing; creating spagetti or a non-understandable mess (have seen enough single while loops programs with a single state machine and one event structure, that have turned out to be a totally mess after a few years with some upgrades here and there (well it keeps me alive as an consultant ). I'm used in small projects (like the examples for the CLD exam) to use my own application template with modules/structures I've previously created, totally overkill to have it for mini applications, but it runs better, less consuming, and is an application stucture youre familiar with. etc. Now, for me Im going to use this but am worried I wont be finished in time since I got to put up the structures and typedefs from 0 (I guess CLD exam time will be 1 hour planning, 2.5 hours programming). How does that reflect on your score in a CLD? If you create a better application environment (that is better suited for CLA) but you arent totally finished, will that count - or not?

Hi,

To your questions:

1) The exams rely on each other. So it's not the CLA exam itself which makes you a CLA, it's the whole way to get it. And all the exams have different requirements too. The pricing for Norway is he in NOK: CLAD:929,- CLD: 2099,- and CLA:2099,- . How long it takes just depends on when you get the survey of each exam and your schedule.

2) You can take the CLAD at Pearson VUE at one of the places they list. The other exams has to be done at NI.

3) You just need to re-eval the latest or highest certification you have, so the CLA hopfully then. If you miss it to re-eval you have to start again at CLAD.

4) For both, the CLA and CLAD you have 4 hours of time to make it. You get different scores which then in summary build you overall score. E.g. for fullfilling the requirements, so that the application runs as it should you get a score, for keeping the style-guidlines you get a score, for the documentation and so on.

The CLD may allow 4 hr.s, but not CLAD. CLAD allows 1 hour to take it.

Haha Corny I believed you are a fun guy/gal good luck to your exam ! By the way as what I'm understand you can't retake the exam for a period of time if u failed it .. Let say if you failed CLA then u can only retake it in 6 months .. Any1 pls correct me If I'm wrong .. 🙂
