Cad-like text box?

I would like to create a text box in which i can type names of building blocks, like 'and', just like in cad. Then it would pop up the vi for me to place. Having to go to a menu every time just to place an 'and' vi is sort of annoying...

If this hasn't already been created, where would one start? Is it even possible?

I don't know what you are talking about has to do with CAD.  But is sounds like you are asking for the Quick Drop.

What version of LabVIEW are you using?  Try hitting Ctrl-Space and see if QD shortcuts come up.
