Calling VIs from non NI test execs

Would like to see an example where a set of VIs have been setup to be run from a test exec other than TestStand. 

Is there a way to leverage the .lvproj file?

Is it possible to access the controls and indicators of the VIs?

There have been numerous posts and examples on calling LabVIEW VIs in other programming languages. You can use VI Server (ActiveX) or make the VIs into DLLs. What other test exec are you thinking about?
