For some time now I have been operating devices from the GPIB port of my PXI-8186 by running programs in RT mode. Now I'd like to try running some programs from my Windows PC by accessing the GPIB port through VISA. (This is the general point to VISA, isn't it?)
Unfortunately, I can't quite seem to get started. My host PC has an IP of 192.168.0.1, while the PXI is as 192.168.0.2. I have NI-VISA and NI-VISA Server version 3.3.1 installed on both machines, and have edited the Remote Access Lists in the NI-VISA options on both machines (just to be sure). I now have a VISA item for 192.168.0.2 under Remote Systems in MAX, but under the Devices and Interfaces item, all I have is a "VISA Error" item, with an error code of "0xBFFF00A7 (VI_ERROR_MACHINE_NAVAIL)" . Trying to start
A bit of searching has not revealed an obvious solution to this problem. I've already tried disabling Windows Firewall entirely, but that didn't seem to make a difference. The PXI does report that the NI-VISA server started sucessfully. What am I doing wrong?
(By the way, somewhere along the way I accidently added 198.168.0.2 a second time to the "Enable finding on these remote VISA systems" list on the host PC. How do I get rid of the second item?)
