When were you trying to conduct an update check? I know that earlier this week (Tue 15), the agent that receives update check request from clients went down for the course of a few hours. This has since been repaired. Please try the check again.
If that is not the problem, try the following URL:
http://update.natinst.com/cgi-bin/maxupdate.pl?openagent&os=%22MS2000%22&p=%22LabVIEW%22&v=%225.0%22
This should return another URL to you in the field of your web browser... paste that new URL that was returned into your browser, and you should get a page of update results for LabVIEW 5.0. Taking these steps simulates what MAX is trying to do with an update check... if you cannot get that webpage to come up, then the problem is most likely outside of the scope of MAX
(e.g. you don't have IE4 or higher installed, bad network connection, no default browser assigned in your OS, etc.). if you can get that webpage to come up, then the problem is most likely internal to MAX/NI Software registry.
What do you make of the suggestion above?
