Cannot drag drop shared variable into block diagram

Hello,

I cannot drag and drop shared variables from Project Explorer into my block diagram.  I was able to do that before.  Any idea what happened?  My Shared variables are networked-shared and single writer with buffer.  I have many shared variables in my project (if this is an issue).  I;'m using LabView 8.  Any help is appreciated.  THanks.

Hi Peter,

Apparently, there's something fishy about this.  See this thread:

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=151442

Does your cursor turn into a stop sign when you try and drag the Shared variable onto the diagram?  If yes, I would make sure the VI you're trying to drop the shared variable onto is not in Run Mode.  Ctrl+M should toggle this.

Hi Khalid,

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, it turns into stop sign when I'm trying to add the shared variables into the block diagram.  I've made sure the VI is not running and still run into problem.  It's interesting that others have seen the same problem.  I'll try to ask NI support on this matter and post back.

I've seen this issue as well and only managed to fix it by closing and reopening my project. This seemed to happen on occasion when I added a new VI to a project and tried to drag a shared variable onto its block diagram before I saved the project. Unfortunately, this is not 100% reproducible (I don't even think it's that common), which makes it tricky to troubleshoot.

Try closing and reopening your project, or possibly removing the VI from the project the adding it back, then reopening your project. Some combination of these techniques has usually helped me, and they don't take much time to try.

Thank you Jarrod for your suggestion.  It worked!!!  This looks definitely like a bug. I can't just close and reopening the project though.  I had to remove the VI from the project, save the project, close the project and reopen the project.  THanks again.

Thank you for the suggestion 13 years later. I had the same issue. Closing and reopening LabVIEW fixed the issue.

I too am having the same issue, but closing the project does not resolve the issue. I have also tried closing labview and still can’t drag and drop the variable from my project. What is up with that?

I had to add the vi that used the shared variables to the same project that contains the shared variables.

Did that fix it?  I was going to ask what changed since your post above from January this year.
