Cannot initialize the HP6810A power supply

If you open the initialize VI, you will find a match pattern which is looking for "HEWLETT-PACKARD,68" in the response string.  Just before that is a VISA read.  probe the output of that and when you get the error check to see if that string is in the string returned by the VISA read.

You know, it's not nice to give bad star ratings when you don't even do what those who are trying to help you ask you to do.  Dennis and I have both asked you twice what the string is coming back from the instrument is and the information has not been provided.

Hello,

Sorry for the hose up...I clicked the wrong button for the ratings. I am working on a project where the lower number is actually better, which is different than what the forum ratings are structured.

Hello,

My test setup is working, but I feel like a real idiot for the following reasons, they are:

  1. I hit the wrong buttons when I evaluated the response of people who are trying to help me. (They did provide good help)
  2. I went to the lab to verify the test setup (I am running this remotely due to noise etc in the lab) and here is what I found
    1. I removed a reseated all of the GPIB connectors on all of the instruments
    2. Rearranged how the GPIB cables were connected to the instruments and connected the cable from the GPIB master ( a laptop PC with a PCMCIA card) last
    3. Verifyied the the flimsy conection from the PCMCIA card was properly seated

After doing the steps above I am able to initialize the instruments and my test setup is working just fine...at least for now. So...if  "THE CROWD" wants to jump up a cheer, go ahead. If "THE CROWD" wants to call me a idiot for incorrectly evaluating the reponses you call me that also, or maybe both. I have to at least called myself a idiot. So now I will always reseat a verify the GPIB cable connections when I get into a situation like this again.

I will also pay more attention to the buttons for the responses, so here is a oportunity for me to redeem myself if you respond to this posting

Regards,

Kaspar
