Capturing video from a Basler Pilot piA640-210gc

Hi,

I am looking to use Labview to capture video data from a  Basler Pilot piA640-210gc. However I have little experience with Labview and want to know :

1) If it is possible to do?

2) If there exist any pre-made viewing and recording programmes for this camera?

Also, does anyone have any experience using any of the Basler Pilot range of camera's with Labview?

Hi Richard,

1) yes, it's possible. You will need either the complete Vision Development Module (if you want to make analysis too) or just the Vision Acquisition Software. Both contain the IMAQdx driver which is capable of working with GigE Cameras.

2) There are lots of examples for image acquisition, but not directly for this camera because the steps are quite the same all the time.

I have no experience with this camera, just with basler cameras in general, with GigE and firewire. They all worked without problems so far.

Is the Vision Development Module part of the Labview software or is it a standalone program? And the same question for the Vision Acquisition Software?

I'm having trouble getting drivers for the Basler camera. I have tried downloading the Basler Pylon SDK which contains the drivers for the camera, however it will not install properly on my laptop (running Vista 64-bit) and Basler tech support are currently not being much help.

Is this IMAQdx driver something I could download on its own or is it part of the software you mentioned?

To your questions:

It's not part of LabVIEW, it's a independend module.

And the same question for the Vision Acquisition Software?

The Vision Acq. Software is also not part of LabVIEW, it contains our IMAQ drivers for image acquisition.

You can get it by its own or included in the Vision Dev. Module.

I'm sorry, I have no experience with Baslers own drivers.

IMAQdx is the part of the Vision Acq. Software to acquire from GigE, Firewire, USB and IP Cameras (last since Version 3.5).
