Change Detection not supported on PXI-6254 ?

Dear NI Community,

I am trying to perform a DAQmx Read on a Digital Input line with the Timing set to Change Detection on a PXI-6254, one of the new M Series cards. The datasheet says that this is doable, but when I try, either using my own code or the DAQ Assistant's, I get an error message telling me that the only values I can use for the Timing property are Sample Clock and On Demand.

What's going on?? Does the PXI-6254 support Change Detection or not? The DAQmx Read Dig Chan-Change Detection.vi doesn't work either, with the same error message.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello Casimir,

The M Series devices do have the ability to perform digital change detection, but the NI-DAQ driver is not yet up to par with the hardware. If you open the M Series Help Manual (which I've linked to here for your convenience) and open the Digital I/O section and browse to the DI Change Detection help, you'll see the first sentence stating that change detection is not yet supported in NI-DAQ 7.3.

The reason that Change Detection is even an option in the Sample Clock or DAQ Assistant VIs is because they do not have the capability of filtering out parameters that aren't supported for a certain board.

I hope this answers yo
ur question.

Thanks Jared! In that case, what driver should I be using to use this feature?

Thanks,

Hello Casimir,

NI-DAQmx is the appropriate driver to use with our M Series devices. Change Detection will be added as an addtional feature in the revisions to come. I unfortunately cannot release any information in regards to what revision this might be possible. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
