Changing default file version

Recently, the labview version on our workstations was changed from 8.6 to 2009. However, due to administrative reasons, the version in 2 of our labs (different sources of funding) was left at 8.6 and will not be upgraded for at least a year (budget problems).

This has created a problem as I do most of the actual coding in my office and use the lab machines only to verify the developed code (a matter of logistics as the labs are busy with measurements most of the time).

Save as previous version does NOT work properly as it appears to leave random sub VIs at 2009 version, and that creates a whole new mess when the time for testing comes - I have to go and save each sub VI individually to 8.6 to be certain that such snafus would not occur. Sometimes the problems are with the custom VIs and other times, it is the differing instrument VIs. In any case, I am finding that I am wasting time on meaningless book-keeping issues. Time that I do not have.

Is it possible to configure 2009 to not use the new file format at all, but stick to 8.6 ?

No.

Your issue has been encountered by many people, so if you do a search you will see these discussions having taken place. My suggestion is to keep 8.6 on your machine since you have to support a lab that only has 8.6. Keep in mind that the license for LabVIEW does not dictate what version you have to run. You can use the 2009 license and have the 8.6 version installed.
