Chossing a camera for visual detection

Hello,

I am doing a project in university with labview. The project is about visual detection of objects. Therefore I need to choose a camera system. Now I was wondering which camera interface I can use. I mean Camera Link, USB, IEEE 1394 or GigE Vision. Is it possible to use for example USB 3.0 and directly link it to my computer and do the image processing in LabVIEW without using a PXI System? It is a university project and therefore I have limited resources.

Thank you so much.

I have a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 (1080P, 30fps Video, USB 2.0, list around $80) plugged into my PC, and visible as an IMAQdx device in MAX.  For a Student Project, it will certainly let you acquire images and do image processing in LabVIEW.  You don't need USB 3.0 unless you are acquiring high-speed video.

Image processing and visual detection of objects is something that LabVIEW definitely support with IMAQ and IMAQdx.  The Documentation is a little sparse, but it is there if you dig for it.

Yes, Vision Acquisition Software (~$430) supports many different interfaces. I usually look to Point Grey (now owned by FLIR) for high performance cameras around $500.
