Cluster of Refnums too huge for Frontpanel

Hi everybody,

i am having a problem. I am using a cluster in which there are refnums to many frontpanel objects. This cluster is used by many subVIs to access this frontpanel objects. But as this cluster is very big the subVIs frontpanels look bad after placing it there. So my question is: is there any possibility to display a cluster just as a icon for example? Or is there another possibility to make the cluster smaller on the frontpanels of the subVIs?
Would be glad if someone has a solution 🙂

Thanks
Alex

For a simple solution you can do this.. Decrease the size of the cluster. dragging its borders!Smiley Wink

Make the cluster's autosizing none.

See the attachment.

Two ideas :
  1. Unless the user has to see/edit the values of the refnums, simply place the cluster outside the visible part of the FPs.
  2. Use a Functionnal global variable to pass the values of the cluster to the subVIs. Doing so, the cluster will not appear on the FP and will take only a little area (size of the icon) on the diagram. I attach a small example to show the concept of a functionnal global.

Alex,

You could put the cluster in a global buffer vi (lv2 global, action engine).
That way you will have only a VI in your diagram. Disadvantage is you won't
have a wire to indicate where it is used, which is strangly enough also a
great advantage!
