Coloured Diagrams

Hi everybody,

I discovered recently I can coulour the background of the diagrams and
parts of it like a sequence or other structures.
I think it looks nicer and does help to visualize somtimes what belongs
together.
Is this an inofficial feature - I do not know how to change my pointer
to the paint-brush when in the diagram window - I have to change the
pointer's function in the panel window.

Anybody else uses this?
Should it be an official feature?

Best Regards
Urs

Hello Urs,

that's an old feature.

But I want to warn you: most users who work for a long time with LabView don't like those colored diagrams. It looks (at least) uncommon, if not to say "ugly"...

I think it's very annoying to look at diagrams with black or grey background, oddly painted loops and so on. You could miss important facts like colored case-structures connected to an eror cluster. And so on...

While it is the current standard in LabVIEW to not color the diagram, I have seen examples at some of my customers where a moderate amount of pastel colors have highlighted certain areas or differentiated between different functional blocks. It definitely can be over done, but the same can be said for front panels. As to changing to the brush, in the newer versions you can click on the "Window" pulldown in the diagram's tool bar and select "Show Tools Palette". Styles change, nor are there any hard and fast rules (the examples NI shipped with 2.5.x had Lots of sequence structures, now considered something to generally avoid!).
