Connecting to an HP 4155A

I am trying to connect to an HP 4155A parameter analyzer through the NI GPIB-USB-HS controller.  I have installed the latest version of NI-VISA.  When I do a scan in MAX it says that it cannot find any instruments on the controller.  I have double checked that the Tools->NI VISA-VISA Options->passports->NiVisaTulip.dll is clicked.

I hooked up the same system with the same controller to an Agilent 4156C Parameter Analyzer, and it works fine so I think the controller works fine.

One thing I noticed is that on the back of the Agilent 4156C, it says "GPIB" next to the port, whereas on the back of teh 4155A it says "HPIB".  Does this mean that I need to have HP-VISA installed instead of NI-VISA?  If so, where can I download the correct version of HP-VISA?

I believe this is differnet because I have an NI controller.  i am using the NI GPIB-USB-HS.  this thread describes a person with an HP controller card.  I am simply trying to use the NI controller to connect to an HP device.

Hi Kyle,

there is no difference between "GPIB" and "HPIB" on these models. We use both types in our labs and they work fine with NI-VISA.

Check the interface settings on the 4155A. Maybe it is set to be controller, then there would be a conflict with your USB GPIB controller. Try to copy all the interface settings from the 4156C to the 4155A and try again.

Have fun,

Guenther
